My great escape

Escape: My first long cycle ride through London, a sunny day and a magical experience in Bermnodsey.

Two exhibits displayed in the Cerith Wyn Evans ‘No realm of thought… No field of vision’ exhibition held at the White Cube Bermondsey last month.

The tree summed up how I have been feeling during lockdown but the whole experience was my great escape. I planned my next cultural trip straight after.

A sense of beauty on a rainy gloomy day.

A rainy and quite gloomy bank holiday weekend but all brightened up by two cultural wonders. One at the V&A , the Jameel Prize 4 exhibition and following that, a trip to the Design Museum to see the Azzedine Alaïa exhibition.

The Jammeel Prize is an award for contemporary art and design inspired by Islamic tradition. It is an international competition, open to artists and designers across the world. Over 250 entries were received and works by eight finalists are exhibited. The show is free and open at the V&A until 25 November 2018.

Hala Kaiksow is a fashion designer, born in Bahrain and who launched her own sustainable womenswear label in 2016.

The ‘Azzedine Alaïa the couturier ‘exhibition at the Design Museum presents fashion figure hugging sensuous beauty. Azzedine’s design and use of fabrics are inspiring. This exhibition is charged and is open until October 2018.

I am pleased to say my weekend has ended with a smile.

Objects,Spaces and Inspiration

Whenever I need some inspiration and today was one of those days, I search for a creative wonderland and aim for that. Today it was the Tate Modern that I went to and a free exhibition entitled ‘Between Object And Architecture’ was where I found myself. This piece by Cristina Iglesias ‘Pavilion Suspended in a Roon/2005’ drew my attention and created a space and food for thought.

Pause for thought in Bermondsey

Anselm Kiefer ‘Walhalla‘, White Cube Bermondsey

Begin your 2017 cultural journey with a trip to the White Cube, Bermondsey exhibition space and experience ‘Walhalla’ an Anselm Kiefer exhibition. It’s amazing, thought provoking and intriguing. The exhibition provides so much to see and talk about, that there is no doubt you will want to utilise one of the many eating and drinking venues on offer in the area. A coffee, a further read of the exhibition handout and a deep and meaningful pause for thought wrapped up my 2017 cultural day.

A calm location, a creative high and all minutes away from the mad Christmas London rush

Camel (Albino) Contemporary Needle (large) (2013) by John Baldessari

Camel (Albino) Contemporary Needle (large) (2013) by John Baldessari

Behind the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street I was surprised to find the wonderful Marian Goodman art gallery. Calming and intriguing. This exhibit, ‘Camel (Albino) Contemporary Needle by John Baldessari a Californian artist, is a creative interpretation of a Christian parable and metaphor for the difficulties of the rich in gaining entry into heaven.

The gallery spaces and choice of exhibits work so well.
