A calm location, a creative high and all minutes away from the mad Christmas London rush

Behind the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street I was surprised to find the wonderful Marian Goodman art gallery. Calming and intriguing. This exhibit, ‘Camel (Albino) Contemporary Needle by John Baldessari a Californian artist, is a creative interpretation of a Christian parable and metaphor for the difficulties of the rich in gaining entry into heaven.

The gallery spaces and choice of exhibits work so well.

Time to relax and take it all in.

I was lucky to get a sneak preview of the Design Museum on Sunday and I will definitely be returning. It opens this week, great location, great meeting place and ‘design is all around us’ is my mantra now leading up to Christmas. Design is the arts and sciences working together creatively.

There is always more in Art and Creativity if you look further.

Omer Arbel:44

A stroll through the city, coffee in the sunshine and something beautiful at the Barbican. Hundreds of free-poured aluminium arms suspended from the ceiling by thin cables, designed by Omer Arbel and produced by Bocci.

Once attracted and or inspired its always worth investigating further. I got home, logged on to the Internet and found on the Barbican website (when you search Omer Arbel) a great video showing, Behind the Scenes: Building Bocci and Omer Abel’s 44. Wow, Creative teamwork in action.

Blog 89: Switching worlds by the Thames

Went to the Tate members evening on Tuesday and what a queue!! No complaints though, as nice day, nice location and determination to want to get inside to see the new building the ‘Switch House’.

There is something about the Thames, the bridge and Tate Modern that make you feeling you are gorging on a very luxurious cake.

Well the 10th Floor viewing gallery is a must see. Looking out over London, looking into properties and the lives of people lucky enough to live local made a powerful impression on me.

My advice. Wait for a quieter time, get to the 10th floor and take the opportunity to relax, think and transport your mind to the creative landscape, which surrounds you. I suddenly felt I was back there, if only.

Blog 88: Stretching the imagination

Wow a location where the arts and sciences are in unison. Being outside, enjoying a structure which just has a very calming effect is a must for anyone feeling they just want to get out away from the rat run. I don’t know if it’s the stretched fabric, the idea of a robot behind a screen and of course the colourful environment surrounding, but without doubt engineering has suddenly become live for me.

Blog 86: Finding Bees

IMG_1610

I plan to stop numbering my blogs once I get to 100, but getting to 100 has been a greater challenge than I expected. I’m presently feeling like one of the few people on earth who is not on face book, but no worries, I see this blog as putting my head above the parapet and my attempt to join the other side.

Well for the moment number 86 continues to be my memory bank, which is essential and today I return to my trip to Oxford University Museum of Natural History and finding Bees, in particular Kurt Jacksons Bees exhibition.

Amazing creatures in an absolutely amazing place.

Blog 78: Thinking architecture and communities

Creation from Catastrophe, How architecture can rebuild communities’ was my cultural visit today. An exhibition on the ground floor of the RIBA building, which is a very calming environment with an amazing shop and filled to capacity with inspiring content.

‘Designing for resilience exhibition’ on the upper floor shows proposals from the rebuild following Hurricane Sandy.

Spaces and people, an opportunity to be really creative.

Blog 75: An art piece and opportunity for positive distraction

Jeff Lowe at the Pangolin London Gallery.

The big question, what draws you in and what is it about an art piece which makes you stop, think and enjoy?

This piece distracted me from all the other busy Easter weekend jobs that need to be done. It made me smile as my eyes followed the tubes looking for the start and end.

Unfortunately I did not make a note of the name of this piece but recommend a visit to see the work of Jeff Lowe.
