Being an acrobat

There is something about art or an exhibition that just hits the right chord. Something that presents exactly how you feel at the time or just makes you smile. Well my recent trip to a small gallery in Islington did just that and acrobats stopped me in my tracks.

The day I visited The Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art  was a cold and rainy day, but my visit and coffee in the café cheered me up and is a definite for a return visit.

Thoughtful, Different, Experiential

My recent cultural hit was a visit to Tate Modern. The latest exhibition is  ‘ILYA AND EMILIA KABAKOV’ NOT EVERYONE WILL BE TAKEN INTO THE FUTURE and this is well worth a visit. As always there are many experiences in the main hall and exhibitions on offer for free but if you can, this ticketed show is worth visiting. Thoughtful, informative and experiential.

No photos allowed in the exhibition, so unfortunately I can’t show a taster but there is something relaxing about enjoying an exhibition without the pressure of recording it.

Secret garden

Fenton House in Hampstead London was my surprise find today. It was ‘Open House’ this weekend but it was not the house but the garden that took me by surprise. Admittedly it was a beautiful sunny day but there is no doubt the garden is their treasure. Well kept, beautiful plants and wonderful places to sit on a bench and enjoy London.

Lightening my spirits

Work by Natalia Avdeeva at the Bankside Gallery

An exhibition worth going to at Bankside Gallery. ‘Above And Beyond’ A Major Exhibition of Paintings and Drawings by Natalia Avdeeva. Land – Sea – Cityscapes.

Natalia’s work has a depth and colour, which lightens ones spirits. Finding artists outside the larger institutions is invigorating. This exhibition is free, in a great location and on until 2nd July.

Skies the limit.

I visited the sky garden recently and looking out across London really reminded me of the magic and beauty of the City, its so easy to forget the bigger picture.  London life has its stresses but taking a break to look from a high, enjoying the richness of the surroundings is an activity worth undertaking.

Is it all about money?

A very small glimpse of a work by Michael Dean and which was on display at the Tate Britain Turner Prize 2016

In a world where everyone is driven by money Michael Dean’s exhibit in the Turner Prize 2016 exhibition at the Tate Britain last week was very powerful and thought provoking. As one of the shortlisted artists, his work had great impact, igniting discussion about the poverty line, money and its meaning. Although the exhibition has now closed, the image of coins initially totalling twenty thousand four hundred and thirty six pounds (associated with a family and the poverty line) but presented minus one penny has still stuck with me. A visual reminder of money, the poverty line and questions about the future. I will be looking out for other work by Michael Dean and ensuring the Turner Prize 2017 is on my calendar for next year.
